Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is attracting a lot of attention at Al-Ittihad
Liverpool are to hold key talks over the sale of Mohamed Salah to Al-Ittihad on Thursday, with officials from the Saudi Arabian club formally presenting a “very worrying” offer to the Merseysiders, according to a source.
The Egyptian superstar is the biggest footballing name in Arab football and bringing the 31-year-old to the Saudi Arabian Pro League would be their biggest coup to date. As a result, Al-Ittihad is willing to stop at nothing to convince Liverpool to sell Salah.
To that end, the Saudi Arabian side have raised their offer from an initial offer of £60m for Salah to an outstanding and official offer of £150m, which was rejected by Liverpool last week.
Although the Reds have held firm so far, rumors of Salah’s move to the Gulf state will not go away. With them looking to pay Salah a world record salary of £2.4m a year, plus perks such as national sponsors and a win bonus, few would forgive Salah the temptation of a move.
However, Jürgen Klopp is determined. He insists Liverpool have no intention of accepting money for a player who would prove useless to his club at this stage of the season. With the window now closed, the Merseysiders would lose their best and most important player with no chance of replacing him before the January window opens in 116 days’ time.
Al-Ittihad officials are making a final offer to Liverpool for Mo Salah

Now, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galeti, negotiations to sell Salah will reach a critical and final point on Thursday – the day the transfer window closes in Saudi Arabia. Speaking last night, Galetti said: “The last match between Al-Ittihad and Liverpool for Salah is tomorrow [Thursday] morning.
“A great effort by the delegation represented by two club members, two PIF members and one tourist office. More info soon.”
Jon Smith – the man who was dubbed the world’s first super agent – reflected on how he sees the saga ending.
And unfortunately for the Reds, he sees Liverpool as little choice in the “very worrying” offer.
“I think Salah is leaving, which is very annoying for Liverpool,” he told Caught Offside. “At his age, money has to be the deciding factor and that’s a pretty educated guess, although I could be wrong. I think he’s leaving because Saudi Arabia can easily write a check for £200m.
“Where else are Liverpool going to get that kind of money and where else is Salah potentially earning £95m a year at the end of his career?”
Klopp would be shocked to sell Salah
The impact on Liverpool would be astronomical if their best and most important player left. Not only would they score 188 goals in 308 games since his £36.9m arrival from Roma in 2017, but his all-round play and skills are crucial to their way of playing.
Furthermore, a sale would probably seriously bother Klopp, who explained why Liverpool cannot keep their sale. Meanwhile, the Reds boss has fielded dozens of questions about a potential sale.
Speaking last after Sunday’s win over Aston Villa, Klopp said: “Nobody came to me and told me something could happen or whatever. I’m pretty sure I would have got a phone call but I didn’t.
“And Mo never looked for a second as if he was thinking about anything other than Aston Villa.
“He’s got unbelievable numbers, but it’s not surprising that he’s got those numbers. “And he had opportunities beyond that, he was involved in creation and founding and all kinds of things. He is a world class player, no doubt about it. I am very happy that he joined my team.”
Now, when D-Day arrives, Klopp will finally find out if his side will stand firm or succumb to Saudi Arabia’s millions.
