Mazzulla @36: Reflects on Life’s Challenges and Joys, Shares Goals for Next Season

Happy Birthday to the Head Coach of the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics’ head coach celebrates his 36th birthday today.

It has been almost two weeks since the Boston Celtics gave their head coach one of the best gifts that anyone in the basketball world could ever hope for.

Nevertheless, there is a good chance that his 36th birthday will always be an extra special one for Joe Mazzulla.

In two seasons as the head coach of one of the NBA’s most iconic and historic franchises, Mazzulla has seen some ups and downs.

There was a lot of doubt surrounding Mazzulla and his ability to lead the team when he first took the position before the 2022-23 season.

That low level of confidence was not helped by a less-than-ideal end to that season where the Celtics fell to a much lower-seeded Miami Heat and looked non-competitive in the seventh game after coming back from a 3-0 deficit.

Many people doubted that the Celtics would be able to snap their NBA Championship drought under Mazzulla’s guidance. Mazzulla, however, was able to guide the team to an achievement that it had not reached in 16 years.

Mazzulla was also able to guide the Celtics to many NBA and Celtics records. This list includes:

– The most points in Celtics history with 9,887.

– The most home wins to start a season in team history with 20.

– The first NBA team to finish 14 games ahead of anyone else in their conference since the 1975-76 Golden State Warriors.

– The fourth-most wins in Celtics history with 64.

– The most 50-point wins in an NBA season with three.

Mazzulla has made an impact both on and off the court and has proven just how valuable he is to the Celtics.
