Klay Thompson Maintains Warriors Brotherhood
Klay Thompson and Festus Ezeli played 218 games together. During their time as Golden State Warriors teammates, they won a championship together and helped their team to top the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls. The 2015-16 Warriors season saw the team set an NBA record 73-9, impressively breaking the 1995-96 Bulls record.
With such a grand history between them, it makes sense that they stayed in touch after an eight-year separation as teammates. Ezeli invited Thompson to his basketball camp in his native Cameroon, and naturally, the former Splash Brother obliged.
Ezeli posted a picture of Thomspon with the camp’s kids, captioned: “Shoutout to Klay Thompson really taking time out to hang out with the kids, take pictures. To us, this is a few minutes. To them, this is everything! This makes me so happy!”
While such comments presented Thompson as a great teammate and a good person, it’s no surprise to Warriors fans. Attempting to play through a torn ACL in Game 6 of the NBA 2019 NBA Finals, Thompson showcased his grit and nearly sacrificed his career for the fans and his teammates when they needed the other half of the Splash Brothers most.
Last season, Thompson came off the bench for Steve Kerr, albeit in a “down” season. Although Thompson left the Warriors on a seemingly bitter note, Joe Lacob emotionally opened up about the 2024 offseason, stating he “meant so much to us” during his 13 seasons with the dynasty.
Thompson still has support in the Warriors locker room, especially with Draymond Green coming out to Thompson’s defense in a recent podcast appearance, and will indeed have a brotherhood in the Dallas Mavericks roster, too.
