Flying Fijians Set for Semifinal Clash: Byrne Unveils Strategic Changes Ahead of Pacific Nations Cup Battle with USA Eagles!

Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne has kept his faith in the core of the squad that recently triumphed over Tonga in Nuku’alofa, making only four changes to his side for this weekend’s Asahi Super Dy Pacific Nations Cup semifinal clash against the USA Eagles.

Among the changes, Kitione Salawa steps in to start at number 7, resulting in Albert Tuisue shifting to the bench. Isoa Nasilasila also comes into the side, replacing Mesake Vocevoce in the locks, while Inia Tabuavou is set to start at inside centre, pushing Apisalome Vota to the bench.

Tevita Ikanivere will captain the team from hooker, with Eroni Mawi and Samuela Tawake completing the front row. Nasilasila will partner Temo Mayanavanua in the second row, while Ratu Meli Derenalagi and Salawa will flank either side of the scrum. The dynamic Elia Canakaivata is set to start at number 8, adding significant power and explosiveness to the back row.

Frank Lomani and Caleb Muntz will continue their combination at halfback and flyhalf, respectively, with Tabuavou teaming up with Iosefo Masi in the midfield. On the wings, Epeli Momo and Vuate Karawalevu will start, while the young Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula retains his spot at fullback.

The bench includes impactful players like Albert Tuisue, Mesu Dolokoto, Peni Ravai, and Apisalome Vota, ready to make their mark when called upon.

Fiji’s semifinal against the USA Eagles is scheduled for 10:05 p.m. tomorrow. In the other semifinal, Samoa faces Japan on Sunday, while Tonga and Canada will battle it out for fifth place on Saturday. All matches will be held at Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Stadium in Japan.
