Lakers Acquire $43M Multi-Time All-Star in New Major Trade Proposal
The Los Angeles Lakers have displayed a stronger performance on the court this season under new head coach JJ Redick, despite maintaining nearly the same lineup as last year. Redick’s adjustments have placed players in positions where they can thrive, which has translated into winning basketball.
Although it’s still early in the season, Los Angeles appears significantly more competitive. However, to genuinely compete for another championship, a trade may be necessary.
The Lakers possess a few valuable assets for potential deals, but navigating the trade market could be tough. Yet, if general manager Rob Pelinka finds a creative approach, the Lakers could be well-positioned for a significant acquisition.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed several intriguing trade ideas for NBA teams, including one where the Lakers would acquire Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young.
The trade package would see Los Angeles sending guard D’Angelo Russell, forward Rui Hachimura, guard Gabe Vincent, a 2029 first-round draft pick, a 2030 first-round pick swap, and a 2031 first-round draft pick.
“The concept of Trae Young joining LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Los Angeles gained traction in the offseason. The Lakers’ better-than-expected start may have cooled those rumors, but it’s not out of the question for them to resurface. A losing streak or the realization that the current roster may not be built to compete in the playoffs post-LeBron could reignite these discussions. If either scenario unfolds, L.A. should be prepared to part with salary-matching contracts and draft assets to draw the Atlanta Hawks’ interest.”
Although acquiring Young could boost the Lakers, they likely wouldn’t trade three picks for him. Young’s perceived value has decreased in recent years, and Los Angeles might only be willing to offer a single first-round pick in exchange.
Adding Young would provide the Lakers with a third star and maintain their offensive strength. However, concerns about his defensive capabilities might give the Lakers pause.
Young has long been connected to the Lakers, and a move could eventually happen. However, as of now, it remains somewhat improbable.
