Cowboys End 334-Day Home Skid with Thanksgiving Win Over Giants
The Dallas Cowboys snapped a 334-day home losing streak with a 27-20 victory over the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day. This long-awaited win broke a six-game home losing streak, including playoff losses, and kept their slim playoff hopes alive. Improving to 5-7, the Cowboys have upcoming games against lower-ranked teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers, providing an opportunity to boost their record.
The game turned in the second quarter when linebacker DeMarvion Overshown made a game-changing play. After the Cowboys closed the gap to one point, Overshown intercepted a tipped pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown, giving Dallas the lead. This key defensive play energized the Cowboys, as their defense prevented the Giants from scoring again until the fourth quarter. The inspired defensive unit held firm, setting the tone for the remainder of the game.
Offensively, Dallas found success in the running game, led by Rico Dowdle. Named the primary running back, Dowdle rushed for over 100 yards—the first Cowboy to do so in 26 games—and scored his first touchdown of the season. This milestone was even more impressive given that the Cowboys played without several key offensive linemen. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb struggled in the first half with dropped passes but rebounded in the second half to help secure the win.
The New York Giants’ struggles continued as they fell to 2-10 with their seventh consecutive loss. Their offense faltered again under new quarterback Drew Lock, who started his first game for the Giants. Lock threw an interception returned for a touchdown, was sacked six times, and endured 13 hits. The Giants’ backup offensive line failed to protect him, rendering his efforts largely ineffective. Meanwhile, their defense missed key tackles, allowing the Cowboys to maintain control.
The Giants briefly held a 7-3 lead in the first quarter, marking their first lead in a game since early October, but they couldn’t sustain it. Injuries, including a significant one to defensive standout Dexter Lawrence, further dampened their chances. With their season in freefall, questions about the future of head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are mounting, despite earlier assurances of their job security.
The Giants now turn their focus to the New Orleans Saints. There is some hope that quarterback Tommy DeVito, recovering from injury, may return to the starting lineup.
