**Lions Make Roster Adjustments Ahead of Week 17 Clash with 49ers**

The Detroit Lions announced two significant roster moves on Tuesday, signaling preparations for the final stretch of the regular season. The team released veteran linebacker David Long and re-signed wide receiver and kick returner Maurice Alexander to their practice squad.

### **David Long’s Short Stint in Detroit**

David Long, 28, joined the Lions five weeks ago after a brief tenure with the Miami Dolphins. While in Detroit, Long contributed in key matchups, including the Thanksgiving win against the Chicago Bears, where he made his lone start. He also appeared in games against the Colts, Packers, and Bills.

Long’s most notable performance came in Week 15 against Buffalo, earning him a solid Pro Football Focus overall grade of 70.4, with an impressive run defense score of 81.5. During his time with the Lions, Long recorded seven tackles, a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery.

### **What This Move Signals**

The decision to release Long hints at potential returns from injured players, with linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin being a likely candidate. Reeves-Maybin is currently within his 21-day activation window, which would bolster Detroit’s depth on defense.

### **Maurice Alexander Returns**

Wide receiver Maurice Alexander rejoined the Lions’ practice squad, adding flexibility to their special teams. Known for his kick return abilities, Alexander could provide valuable support in crucial late-season games.

The Lions face the San Francisco 49ers on “Monday Night Football” in Week 17, a high-stakes matchup at Levi’s Stadium that could shape their playoff hopes.
