Detroit quarterback Jared Goff put on an almost flawless display in “passing the test” and assisted the NFC in establishing a 14-7 advantage over the AFC on the first night of the Pro Bowl Games on Thursday.
After receiving assistance from Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs through an NFL trivia competition, Goff demonstrated his passing skills by successfully hitting every target and more in just one minute and 30 seconds. He scored 44 points for the NFC, which is five more than his Minnesota teammate Sam Darnold.
Goff, Darnold, and Baker Mayfield from Tampa Bay easily triumphed over the AFC lineup of quarterbacks, which included Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, New England’s Drake Maye, and Pittsburgh’s Russell Wilson.
The passing game stood out as the main feature among the six events on the opening night. The NFC claimed victory in two out of three relay races, a skills competition called “satisfying catches,” and a game show for NFL teammates named “helmet harmony,” which bore resemblance to “The Newlywed Game.”
The leagues divided two dodgeball matches, and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams of the New York Jets secured a win for the AFC in “the big spike” with his impressive football throwdown.
Several impressive moments include the Bosa siblings, Joey and Nick, transforming their portion of a relay into speed walking; while Bengals standout Ja’Marr Chase made one-handed grabs on the first three passes thrown to him in “satisfying catches.”
Four additional skill events will air on Sunday, each earning three points, before the Pro Bowl Games finish with a flag football match.
“We have the advantage, and that’s positive,” NFC coach Eli Manning stated. “It simply illustrates the dedication, the effort, and all the passion of these individuals.” They’ve been working hard. They are excited about this. They aim for the three-peat. Everyone has been discussing Kansas City for next week with a chance for a three-peat. Truly, the Pro Bowl is the center of attention as the NFC aims for a three-peat at this moment.
