During training camp, NFL players often set high expectations for themselves, though not all of these goals are realistic.
Every team dreams of winning the Super Bowl, and every player aspires to become a star. In 2023, Netflix’s documentary “Receivers” showed Amon-Ra St. Brown

In July 2024, Kerby Joseph set his own ambitious target for the season, one he considered both challenging and achievable. The Detroit Lions safety publicly revealed one of his main objectives.
“I want to lead the league in interceptions,” Joseph announced during the first week of training camp.
Joseph’s bold declaration proved accurate, as he ended the 2024 season with a league-leading nine interceptions.
At first, his goal seemed daring but within reach. In each of his first two NFL seasons, Joseph recorded four interceptions. With a stronger defensive roster surrounding him in 2024, it was reasonable to expect he could make more plays.
That’s exactly what happened. Early in the season, Detroit’s improved pass rush put pressure on opposing quarterbacks, resulting in errant throws.
This allowed Joseph to make a strong start, collecting seven interceptions in the Lions’ first 10 games. Although the team hit a stretch without interceptions later in the season, Joseph stepped up when it mattered most.
On “Monday Night Football” in Week 17, facing the San Francisco 49ers, Joseph intercepted Brock Purdy twice in the second half. His key plays helped the Lions secure a thrilling 40-34 victory.
After learning he had been named an All-Pro, Joseph’s excitement was evident.
“Oh! I made All-Pro?” he exclaimed when informed by Associated Press reporter Rob Maaddi. “Finally! They know what’s up. They know what’s up.”
While Joseph accomplished his personal goal, the Lions still have their ultimate objective ahead—a team achievement waiting to be secured in New Orleans.
Joseph’s story reflects the balance of aspiration and realism, proving that with the right mix of effort and opportunity, bold goals can become reality.
