Lions GM Explains Why Jared Goff Will Thrive Without Ben Johnson

The Detroit Lions lost both their offensive and defensive coordinators last week, as Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn accepted head coaching roles. This means the Lions’ coaching staff will have a new look next season.

All attention now shifts to quarterback Jared Goff, who was recently named a finalist for the MVP award.

However, Detroit’s general manager Brad Holmes isn’t concerned about Goff’s performance declining.

“While Goff was highly productive with Ben as his coordinator, he also had significant success in a completely different system before arriving here,” Holmes said.

“I think he’s a better and more mature quarterback now than he was during his earlier success. I don’t anticipate any drop-off.

He’s in his prime, or rather, just entering it as he continues to improve.”

Holmes seems confident that Goff will excel regardless of who the Lions’ offensive coordinator is. Johnson, meanwhile, was recently named the head coach of the Chicago Bears.

The Lions’ season ended abruptly in the divisional round, as the 15-2 team fell to the Washington Commanders 45–31. Goff and the Lions will look to make a deeper playoff run next year.
