The Yellow Jackets came out strong, hitting two of their first three shots to take an early 5-0 lead. Over the next four minutes, both teams leaned on free throws for scoring, with five of the next nine points coming from the charity stripe.
Notre Dame responded with a 7-0 run to take a 13-12 lead, but a layup by senior guard Javian McCollum put Georgia Tech back on top at 15-12.
The Fighting Irish managed to stay in the game thanks to their sharp shooting from beyond the arc, hitting five of their first ten three-pointers, while the Yellow Jackets struggled early, making just 1 of 6 from deep.
Georgia Tech then began to build a lead, going on a 7-2 run to make it 29-23. The largest lead of the half came when the Yellow Jackets went up 32-25 with just over three minutes remaining. However, Notre Dame fought back, with Matt Allocco draining a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer to tie the game at 37-37.
