News Update: 6 Assistant Coaches Who Could Join Kellen Moore on the Saints

6 Assistant Coaches Who Could Join Kellen Moore on the Saints

The New Orleans Saints are currently eyeing Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as the top contender for their head coach position. As the team begins to prepare for new coaching staff, it’s likely that Moore will bring some familiar faces from his previous roles to help build a strong team. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the assistant coaches who could be joining Moore in New Orleans:

Eagles Quarterbacks Coach Doug Nussmeier

Doug Nussmeier has worked closely with Kellen Moore for several years, much like the Saints’ previous setup with Klint Kubiak and Andrew Janocko. Nussmeier is currently the quarterbacks coach for the Eagles, but he previously held similar roles with the Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys during Moore’s tenure there. If there’s one coach who would be almost certain to follow Moore, it’s Nussmeier. Additionally, Nussmeier’s son, Garrett Nussmeier, plays quarterback for LSU, raising the possibility of the Saints targeting him in the 2026 NFL Draft.

49ers Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Assistant Brandon Staley

Brandon Staley could also be a candidate to join Moore’s staff. Staley, who recently parted ways with the San Francisco 49ers, was a possible internal candidate for their defensive coordinator role but lost out to an outside hire. With a solid defensive mind, Staley could join the Saints in a variety of roles, whether as defensive coordinator, assistant head coach, or defensive assistant. His connection with Moore from their time together with the Los Angeles Chargers makes him a likely candidate.

Eagles Assistant Head Coach/Pass Game Coordinator Kevin Patullo

Kevin Patullo, the Eagles’ assistant head coach and pass game coordinator, could be another coach Moore looks to bring aboard. Patullo, who has held similar positions with the Indianapolis Colts, has a solid track record of success across six NFL teams. He could be considered for a promotion to offensive coordinator if Moore is looking to maintain continuity in the offensive scheme.

Former Cowboys Assistant Defensive Line Coach Leon Lett

Leon Lett, a former assistant defensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys, is another potential addition to Moore’s staff. Lett, who was let go in 2022 after an 11-year tenure with the Cowboys, brings extensive experience from both his playing and coaching careers. His experience could add valuable fire and intensity to the Saints’ defensive line room, working alongside Brian Young if he’s willing to take the position.

Linebackers Coach Scott McCurley

With Michael Hodges leaving the Saints’ linebackers coach position for the Cincinnati Bengals, Scott McCurley could be a candidate to replace him. McCurley, who previously served as a long-time assistant with the Green Bay Packers, coached linebackers for the Dallas Cowboys from 2020 to 2022, overlapping with Moore during that time. His familiarity with Moore could make him a top choice for the Saints.

Eagles Run Game Coordinator/OL Coach Jeff Stoutland

While it may be a long shot, adding Jeff Stoutland to Moore’s staff would be a huge move for the Saints. Stoutland, who has been with the Eagles since 2013, is a renowned offensive line and run game coordinator. If the Saints could retain Jahri Evans in his current role and bring in Stoutland, it would significantly improve both the offensive line and Alvin Kamara’s performance, boosting the team’s offensive capabilities.
