Striker arrives, Ben Chilwell exits, and midfielder returns in perfect Chelsea transfer window finish.

Striker signs, Ben Chilwell departs, and midfielder recalled as Chelsea’s transfer window ends on a high note

With just over 48 hours left in the winter transfer window, Chelsea still have a few things to sort out.

The January window is always challenging for clubs to make moves, so it remains to be seen if Chelsea can finish it off with a flurry. Adding to the excitement, the Blues will host West Ham in the Premier League on Monday, deadline day.

Chelsea’s squad does seem in need of a couple of additions to strengthen their push in the second half of the season.

The decision to bring Trevoh Chalobah back from his loan has paid off, but with only one win in their last seven league matches, Enzo Maresca’s side could use another boost.

Ideally, Chelsea will still complete some key transfers before the window closes. Here’s a look at what an ideal ending to the window would look like for them.

Chelsea aim to sign a striker and recall a midfielder

When it comes to potential arrivals, Chelsea should aim to secure a striker in the final hours.

Chelsea are currently on the lookout for a centre-forward, so can they bring someone in to strengthen their attack? It would be beneficial if they find a forward to assist Nicolas Jackson in the No.9 role.

At this point, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, 20, would be a solid late option. Reports earlier this week suggested Chelsea are now in the race for Ferguson, who could be available for £40m either on loan or permanently.

In addition to a forward, Chelsea would greatly benefit from adding another central midfielder.

The best way to address this need would be by recalling Andrey Santos from his loan at sister club Strasbourg.

The 20-year-old box-to-box midfielder has been outstanding for Strasbourg, contributing eight goals in 19 appearances. His profile is exactly what Chelsea need to bolster their midfield, which currently feels a bit thin.

Chelsea plan to incorporate Santos into their squad next season, so they should bring him back now.

Ben Chilwell deserves a transfer move

It would be ideal for Ben Chilwell to leave Chelsea, as it would be unfair for him to spend another extended period on the bench.

The 28-year-old left-back clearly isn’t part of Maresca’s first-team plans, having made just one appearance
