Man City set to agree last-minute deal for Douglas Luiz, says Stefan Borson.
Manchester City could finalize a last-minute agreement to sign
Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan before the Monday transfer deadline.
This is according to former Man City financial advisor Stefan Borson, who told Football Insider that a temporary move for the Brazil international remains the most likely option for the Premier League champions.
Luiz had a two-year stint at the Etihad before moving to Aston Villa in 2019.
The 26-year-old became a crucial player at Villa Park, helping them qualify for the Champions League last season.
Luiz joined Juventus in a £42.5 million deal last summer but has made only five starts in 19 appearances for the Italian club.
Man City could finalize a loan deal for Douglas Luiz
Borson noted that any potential loan deal would likely not involve an obligation-to-buy clause.
He told Football Insider, “I believe they are still looking for a central midfielder, but they can’t seem to find the right one in the market.
“I’m surprised, given they have the whole world of football to search through for a player with more energy than their current midfield.
“In the recent match, their midfield consisted of two 30-year-olds, 34 and 33.
“It’s clearly too old, but they seem unable to find who they want.
“I still think the most probable outcome is that Juventus, at the last minute, accept they won’t get a fee for Douglas Luiz and City sign him on what’s known as a dry loan, without any obligation to buy.”
“I think this is still the most likely scenario.”
