The NFL logo and shield once featured a striking 25 stars, instead of the present eight.

Every star symbolized the 25 teams in the league at that time.

Seeing the old logo can be startling since fans have become so used to the streamlined appearance of the present shield.

Many were surprised to learn about the appearance of the old logo and the meaning of the eight stars today.

“I didn’t notice this or hear about it,” a fan commented on YouTube regarding the alteration in 2008.

“One fan explained the reason for the change by saying that drawing 8 stars is simpler than drawing 25.”

“Eight stars is more logical since it signifies eight sections for 32 teams,” another supporter added.

The NFL never clearly stated the reasons behind the shift from the 25-star-studded shield to its current design.
