While the Detroit Lions aim to fill some coaching staff positions, they have encountered a hurdle in finding a replacement for tight ends coach Steve Heiden. The individual the Lions aimed to at least consider for Heiden’s role is now unavailable.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Lions requested permission from the Jacksonville Jaguars to interview their tight ends coach, Richard Angulo. Nevertheless, the Jaguars denied the offer and opted to extend Angulo’s contract to remain in Jacksonville.
Angulo has served as the Jaguars’ tight ends coach for the past three years, including during the joint practices held between the two teams at the 2023 training camp in Detroit. The 44-year-old Angulo played as an NFL tight end for multiple years and has spent the last ten years in coaching.
The Lions will proceed with other candidates to fill the position left by Heiden, who departed after one season to take on the role of offensive line coach for the New York Jets with head coach Aaron Glenn.
