NFL Executive Foresees Lions’ Interest in $80 Million Ex-All-Pro….

NFL Executive Predicts Lions Will Pursue $80 Million Former All-Pro

During the 2025 NFL offseason, the Detroit Lions are expected to be linked with several high-profile players they could potentially acquire.

With significant cap space and coming off a successful 15-2 season in 2024, they are serious contenders.

They’ve already been mentioned as a possible destination for top defensive players expected to be available, but now it appears they could also be a potential landing spot for a former All-Pro offensive player.

On a February 4 episode of Sportscaster, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared (via Mike Payton of A to Z Sports) that a league executive mentioned the Lions as a team that could pursue Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp.

“One league executive brought up Detroit to me because of the connection with Jared Goff. They came into the league together and made Pro Bowls together. That’s the type of bond that could be intriguing,” Fowler said.

Kupp recently disclosed that the Rams informed him they would be seeking to trade him this offseason.

Although there’s a clear connection between Kupp and Goff, I don’t understand the rationale behind Kupp joining the Lions.

While I see the tie with Goff, it’s unclear how Kupp would fit into this offense.

Detroit already boasts two 1,000-yard receivers, one of whom is considered among the NFL’s elite.

Additionally, Sam LaPorta, who has averaged 800 yards per season in his first two years, is another weapon in their passing game.

Moreover, the Lions have a strong running game with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, supported by one of the best offensive lines in the league.

Given the established options on offense, it’s hard to envision why the Lions would prioritize Kupp or how he would contribute effectively.

Should it happen, the Lions would be acquiring a player who was once regarded as one of the league’s top receivers, recording 67 receptions for 710 yards last season.

However, there may be better fits for both Kupp and the Lions.
