Even though the trade deadline has passed, teams still have a chance to enhance their rosters. For instance, if a competing team seeks to enhance its roster before the playoffs, it can explore the buyout market.
Several players qualify for a buyout. Ben Simmons is among the most recognized names, but several other players could also be seeking a new team shortly. One player to watch is currently outside of the NBA, yet an intriguing clause in his contract may lead to his return happening sooner than expected.
Bleacher Report identified Lonnie Walker as a potential buyout target who may attract interest from playoff-bound teams like the Milwaukee Bucks.
Walker plays as a guard for Zalgiris Kaunas in the Lithuanian Basketball League and the EuroLeague. He is averaging 13.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in the Euroleague. After being waived by the Boston Celtics in the offseason, he signed with Zalgiris Kaunas. He was with the Brooklyn Nets prior to becoming a free agent, and the Celtics signed him to a contract for one year.
The 26-year-old is performing exceptionally in his current circumstances, and NBA teams are taking notice.
Bleacher Report mentioned the Bucks since he doesn’t face the salary limitations that other contenders do. He then provides depth to Milwaukee, which is always beneficial for a team in contention.
Marc Stein noted that Walker possesses an escape clause in his EuroLeague contract, which he can activate until Feb. 18. Should he utilize it, the Bucks might become a credible choice.
Milwaukee is heading in the correct direction, and Walker might be a candidate to consider.
