She was supporting boyfriend Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift was at the Super Bowl last night, cheering on her boyfriend Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
It was a dismal night for Kelce, his quarter-back Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs as the Philadelphia Eagles steam-rolled them to take victory 40-22.
The Chiefs were looking for the three-peat as they played their fifth Super Bowl in six years but as Kendrick Lamar took centre stage for his half-time show, Kansas City had yet to get a point on the board.
Swift, who was no stranger to the New Orleans Superdome stadium having sold out three shows there on her Eras Tour and setting an attendance and revenue record there, was subject to a surprising reaction from the fans inside the stadium.
Far from the screams of adoring fans, when Swift was shown on the jumbotron, she was subject to loud boos.
The 35-year-old, flanked by her friends Ice Spice and Ashley Avignone, didn’t seem to realise at first what was happening.
When it dawned on her she gave a wide side eye to her friends and pulled a slightly confused face before asking, “What is going on?”
The stadium was predominantly filled with Eagles fans – the team Swift grew up supporting, since she was raised in West Reading, Pennsylvania.
In her song Gold Rush she appears to give a nod to the newly crowned Super Bowl champions with the lyric: “I see me padding across your wooden floors, with my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door.”
She explained during the tour: “I noticed some individuals questioning whether it referred to the band Eagles or the team Eagles.” “I really love the Eagles band, but, come on, I’m from Philly, so of course it’s the team.”
While Swift appeared unbothered by the fans’ reactions, insiders with knowledge of Kelce’s situation suggest it impacted the NFL player.
A source informed the Mail: “Travis knew about Taylor being booed and he felt powerless.” The expression on her face affected him deeply.
President Donald Trump, present at the event, further ridiculed Swift on social media, stating: “The only person who had a harder night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift.” She was BOOED out of the Stadium. “MAGA is quite ruthless!”
Nonetheless, Serena Williams, who was present at Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance, expressed her support for Swift on social media by stating: “i love you @taylorswift13 dont pay attention to those booo!!”
