The two comedians had earlier roles in the TV programs ‘Detroiters’ and ‘I Think You Should Leave.’
Tim Robinson and Sam Richardson are extraordinary!
The two actors have partnered with Totino’s for a funny Super Bowl commercial titled “Chazmo Finally Goes Home,” where an E.T.-like alien farewell amusingly goes awry.
Robinson, 43, and Richardson, 41, were formerly featured in the TV series Detroiters. Richardson portrays multiple roles in Robinson’s sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave.
Launched on Wednesday, Feb. 5, the ad starts with Robinson and Richardson tearfully bidding farewell to the eponymous alien, who is setting off in a UFO while holding a bag of Totino’s Pizza Rolls.
“Thank you for giving me your Totino pizza rolls,” the alien states, and Robinson responds with tears, “It’s fine.”
A teenager beside the comedians also waves and states, “We’ll miss you, Chazmo.”
Chazmo, possessing a compact oblong body cloaked in fur, expresses that he will miss her as he gently waves goodbye. Still holding onto the tasty frozen dessert, he remarks, “They’re the most irresistible pizza in the uni-” when the doors to the UFO swiftly close and crush his neck.
Following the grimly humorous turn, the alien’s body trembles as he extends his tongue and his eyes bulge from their sockets. Robinson and Richardson wince as the three teenagers yell in terror.
“Regrettably, that’s simply a facet of existence,” Robinson notes, while Richardson remarks, “Rest in peace, Chazmo” in a theatrical tone.
The Ted Lasso actor puts a pizza roll in his mouth while Robinson comments, “We didn’t know him like you did, so it’s not quite as sad for us.” Richardson states, “Not that we were uninterested,” to which the SNL veteran clarifies, “He simply didn’t express himself in our presence.”
The advertisement was penned by Zach Kanin, co-creator of I Think You Should Leave and Detroiters, and directed by Alice Mathias, who also collaborated on the Netflix sketch program. A press release states that this advertisement is the first Super Bowl ad for frozen pizza.
Like always, this year’s Big Game advertisements feature numerous celebrity cameos. Matthew McConaughey, Charli XCX, and Martha Stewart featured in a set of commercials for Uber Eats, whereas Shania Twain acted as a singing tongue for Coffee-Mate, and Vin Diesel surprisingly took a slow approach for Häagen-Dazs.
