3 Centers Emerge as Potential Targets for Lakers After Signing Alex Len
The Los Angeles Lakers have finally made their long-awaited move and signed a center. After the Mark Williams trade was voided due to a failed physical, the Lakers were on the hunt for a big man to fill in for Anthony Davis. On Tuesday, it was reported that the Lakers had signed free agent Alex Len.
However, the Lakers may not be finished building their roster. On his podcast, The Athletic’s Jovan Buha shared that the team could be looking to add another center from the buyout market, naming three players they might target.
Lakers Interested in 3 Centers Who Could Be Bought Out
Buha mentioned Chris Boucher, Kelly Olynyk, and Larry Nance Jr. as potential options for the Lakers if they become available.
All three players are currently under contract but have been listed as potential buyout candidates. Boucher is known for his rim protection and floor spacing, which could be an upgrade for the Lakers’ current lineup. Olynyk, while defensively lacking, brings strong offensive skills with his passing and shooting. Nance Jr. is a versatile defender who can guard multiple positions but has injury concerns at this point in his career.
The Pelicans have given no indication they would buy out Olynyk’s contract, especially with one more guaranteed year remaining. However, Boucher and Nance have expiring contracts, and with both the Raptors and Hawks rebuilding, they might be open to moving on from the veteran centers.
To sign another player, the Lakers would need to waive someone to free up a roster spot. Cam Reddish is the most likely candidate to be waived, but whether that step will be necessary depends on who becomes available in the coming weeks.
