The Lions’ defeat in the divisional round of the playoffs ended their opportunity to face the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Now, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is hoping that the Lions get that chance in the opening game of the 2025 regular season.
On his podcast with his brothers, St. Brown mentioned that out of the Eagles’ eight home opponents for 2025, the Lions would offer the most exciting matchup for fans — and could give the Lions a chance to assert themselves as NFC contenders right from the start.
“Eagles have the home opener next year because they won the Super Bowl,” St. Brown explained. “Let me list the teams that could be in that first game: Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Lions, Raiders, Rams, Broncos. Who do you think the NFL would choose?”
Both of St. Brown’s brothers picked the Lions, and St. Brown believes that a fully healthy Lions team could go to Philadelphia and secure a win.
“That’s what I’m saying. We might be playing at Lincoln Financial Field,” St. Brown said. “With our healthy defense, you’d see how that thing operates.”
A Lions-Eagles matchup is one of the most anticipated games of the 2025 season, regardless of when it happens, but the Thursday night season opener would be a perfect moment to show who the real NFC favorites are from the start.
