Amon-Ra St. Brown desires his Lions to compete against Philadelphia to kick off the season.
As the current Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles have plenty to anticipate in the upcoming months.
At the top of the list will be starting the 2025 regular season with the inaugural game of the year on a Thursday in September – a fresh NFL tradition.
Philadelphia won’t know its opponent for that game just yet, as the NFL schedule will be released after the April NFL Draft.
However, one specific All-Pro is wishing that his team earns the opportunity to face the champions.
Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions
Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Detroit Lions achieved the NFC’s number one seed last season with a 15-win performance. They were also defeated by the Washington Commanders in the divisional round, thereby allowing Philly to embark on their journey to a championship.
And that has created a bitter feeling for Brown – an issue he wishes to resolve as the NFL season begins.
“Eagles will host the home opener next year since they triumphed in the Super Bowl,” St. Brown mentioned during his podcast alongside his brothers Equanimeous and Osiris. “May I share with you the teams that might participate in that opening match?” Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Lions, Raiders, Rams, Broncos.
“Among all those teams, if you were the NFL, which one would you select?”
The league generally enjoys starting the season with a high-profile game but usually steers clear of having top teams compete against one another so soon in the year, hoping to reserve that matchup for better ratings later.
This alone suggests that it is improbable the Lions and Eagles will compete to kick off the 2025 season.
St. Brown mentioned that the Lions will not be pleased with this.
“That’s what I mean.” “Therefore, we could be playing on the first night,” St. Brown mentioned. “You would observe the workings of our strong defense and how that (expletive) functions.”
Detroit experienced multiple significant injuries throughout the season and will now be utilizing a new offensive coordinator and a new defensive coordinator under head coach Dan Campbell. Although a decline might be anticipated initially, the Lions still desire their opportunity against the top team in football.
Particularly if it signifies the beginning of the new season.
