The Detroit Lions had a standout regular season in 2024, clinching the best record in the NFC North. However, they faced nearly 20 injuries during the playoffs, ultimately losing 45-31 in the Divisional Round to the Washington Commanders. On Wednesday, Lions star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was joined by his brothers Osiris and Equanimeous on his St. Brown Podcast, where the 2025 NFL season opener was discussed. Amon-Ra St. Brown suggested there was a strong possibility that the Lions, under head coach Dan Campbell, could open the season at Lincoln Financial Field against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles.

“You don’t want that smoke,” Equanimeous St. Brown teased Amon-Ra as he talked about the potential matchup with the Eagles in the 2025 opener. The three brothers were in agreement that the Lions were the likely team to face Philadelphia, prompting Equanimeous to make a comment that caught attention. “You could really see what could’ve happened in the NFC Championship, not really, but like…” Equanimeous St. Brown remarked. “Yeah, with a healthy defense…Their team’s not going to change much, I mean it might change a little,” Amon-Ra St. Brown added. “But I’m saying, you would see with our healthy defense, how that (expletive) operates,” he continued, mentioning that 13 players on the Lions’ defense had been injured. Fans jumped into the conversation, defending their teams in the comments. “I do believe a healthy Lions team would’ve won the bowl,” one fan said. “They were missing their best player (Aidan Hutchinson) all season.”
