Bucks’ $23M Big Man Linked to Lakers for Upcoming Free Agency
The Milwaukee Bucks are preparing for the final stretch of the season, feeling optimistic about their playoff prospects. With their two star players and solid depth, Milwaukee believes they have what it takes to compete with any team in the NBA.
However, the team also has to plan for the future, especially with some notable free agents coming this summer. One of those players is center Brook Lopez, and there’s a chance he could leave Milwaukee.
Lopez is already being connected to a Western Conference team, the Los Angeles Lakers. Sam Quinn from CBS Sports suggests that Lopez could be an appealing option for the Lakers as they look for a big man to complement their star players.
“If the Lakers want a more affordable option, Clint Capela and Brook Lopez are both viable mid-level targets. Capela’s game as a rim-runner and protector fits well alongside Luka Doncic, but at 30, he may only offer a short-term solution. The same applies to 36-year-old Lopez, although he is now more grounded in his play. A shooting center could be beneficial, but it likely isn’t a top priority for the Lakers.”
If Lopez leaves, it would be a loss for the Bucks, although at 36, the team has been considering an upgrade at the center position for some time. This could pave the way for Lopez’s departure.
Lopez’s decision will largely depend on the type of contract he seeks in free agency. If the price is higher than what the Bucks are willing to offer, a separation may be inevitable.
Lopez provides Milwaukee with a floor-spacing center who has developed strong chemistry with his teammates. As a former All-Star, he also brings valuable veteran leadership, so the Bucks would like to retain him if possible.
However, Lopez could be a strong fit for the Lakers, especially playing alongside Luka Doncic and LeBron James. Having already played for the Lakers in the past, Lopez would bring familiarity to the franchise.
