Ohio State Playmaker Alters Plans in College Football Transfer Portal
The Ohio State Buckeyes got some positive news from the college football transfer portal on Wednesday. After several weeks of losing players to other teams via the portal, Ohio State managed to keep one of its key playmakers.
On3.com’s Pete Nakos previously reported that Ohio State star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was offered up to $5 million to leave the Buckeyes for another program. In the end, Smith decided to stay with the team, but these offers highlight the intense interest from other programs in trying to steal Ohio State’s players.
“Sources told On3 that Smith is set to earn at least $3 million in 2025, but that’s only the starting point,” Nakos wrote on January 24. “This hasn’t stopped other teams from making offers in the range of $4.5 to $5 million, according to sources.”

As reported by Spencer Holbrook of Lettermen Row on On3, running back Sam Williams-Dixon will remain at Ohio State, despite having initially entered the transfer portal. With TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins both heading to the NFL draft in 2025, Williams-Dixon could see increased opportunities next year.
Holbrook shared on Wednesday, “Just days after Ohio State’s victory over Oregon in the Rose Bowl, freshman running back Sam Williams-Dixon notified the Buckeyes’ staff that he would be entering the transfer portal.”
“After spending more than a month in the portal, Williams-Dixon has decided to return to the program and withdraw his name.”
Dixon, a three-star recruit and the No. 40 ranked running back in the 2024 recruiting class according to Rivals.com, had seven carries for 53 yards in 2024.
