NBA Commissioner Adam Silver spoke about the Luka Doncic trade earlier in the week, but he was further questioned about it on Saturday night during All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. It was the initial question during his yearly press conference at this occasion.

He began by reiterating his earlier comments from the week, expressing his astonishment at the trade, and in that instant, he became a supporter since he had no idea Doncic would be the kind of player available in the market. However, he would persist in discussing the Dallas Mavericks supporters afterward.

Regarding the frustration of the fanbase, I can relate. I comprehend it. Dallas reached the Finals last year, and I’ve mentioned this previously: I hold a strong admiration for Luka. I encountered him prior to his entry into this league while he was at Real Madrid during our preseason match there. It appears genuinely real that he was shocked and let down. “It was evident in his body language.”

Silver would go on to state, “With that being said, I also feel empathy for the Mavericks organization.” I’ve been acquainted with Nico Harrison for a long time since his previous role at Nike. I’ve become close to Patrick Dumont, our new governor in Dallas. I can state one thing with certainty: regardless of how history eventually evaluates this as a wise trade, they acted according to what they believed was best for their organization. I possess no knowledge or belief that there were any hidden motives. I have no doubt that the Dumont and Adelson families purchased that team to ensure it remains in Dallas. I am completely confident that they are dedicated to the lasting success of that franchise. Regarding the Dallas fans, I can only say that, once more, time will reveal if it’s a wise trade, but I believe they should have faith in their organization.

It could be contended that the trade has resulted in a significant setback for the Mavericks. They have already alienated a considerable segment of their fanbase who feels let down by the organization. The main asset in that trade, Anthony Davis, couldn’t last three quarters without suffering a significant injury, as he’s battling an adductor strain that may rule him out for the remainder of the season. Dallas received just one first-round pick in 2029; it’s uncertain what that pick will turn out to be by then.

As the NBA commissioner, Silver must balance various interests, but he at least comprehends the struggles of Mavericks fans, a sentiment the team’s front office lacks.
