Luka Doncic’s Completed Mural With Kobe Bryant is Iconic for LA.
This past weekend, a mural depicting the late Kobe Bryant alongside new Los Angeles Lakers player Luka Doncic was spotted being worked on. Just days after, the mural has been finished.
The artwork portrays a moment between Doncic and Bryant during a 2019 Mavericks-Lakers game. Bryant attended the game to watch his former team play against the Mavericks, and after the game, Doncic approached and embraced Bryant. While playing, Doncic heard someone trash-talking him in Slovenian, only to turn around and realize it was Bryant.
The next year, Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash. Five years after the heartbreaking incident, Doncic was unexpectedly traded to the Lakers. Within weeks of the trade, a mural honoring the memorable moment between Doncic and Bryant was completed.
Doncic recalled the encounter during his press conference with the Lakers earlier this month. “For Kobe to know my name was incredible to me,” Doncic remarked. “I just wish Kobe and Gigi were here to see this moment.”
The mural is located at 8251 Melrose Ave in Los Angeles, CA, and is one of many murals painted to honor the Lakers legend.
