Super Bowl victor Darius Slay Jr. begins the 2025 NFL season as part of the Philadelphia Eagles. However, in addition to that, the 34-year-old cornerback might be considering a comeback to Detroit.

“I have one additional [year] remaining,” Slay informed Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown during a podcast episode with him. You understand how that operates. Anything they wish to pursue. I may sign again, hopefully. If I’m not, then we’ll find out what our plans are. Since I definitely have one more year

When inquired about a possible future in Detroit, Slay expressed his ‘affection’ for what he refers to as his ‘second home.’

“I continue to contribute a lot to the city even now,” Slay remarked. Many guys from Detroit currently in the league were spending time with me when they were just young high school students. That’s what makes it so wild.

Slay then referred to Detroit-born NFL players such as Sauce Gardner of the New York Jets, Jourdan Lewis of the Dallas Cowboys, and free-agent wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, with whom he trained while with the Lions.

“I have a lot of affection, and I attended all the high school games,” Slay remarked.

St. Brown appeared enthusiastic about bringing Slay back to Detroit.

“You already secured a Super Bowl victory, just return,” he stated.

According to Spotrac, Slay is under contract until the 2025 season, during which he will earn $16 million.

A former All-Pro from Mississippi State, Slay played a key role in the Eagles’ outstanding secondary in 2024.

Due to the inclusion of rookie nickelback Cooper DeJean and the return of strong safety CJ Gardner-Johnson from the Lions, Philadelphia limited rival quarterbacks to a league-low average of 174.2 passing yards per game last season.

Slay didn’t log an interception for the first time in his 12-year NFL tenure, yet he achieved 13 passes defended and 49 total tackles over 14 games.

His finest years occurred in Detroit, where he recorded 19 interceptions over seven seasons.

The Lions and the current-champion Eagles begin the 2025 season as contenders for the Super Bowl, despite Detroit giving up an astonishing 244 passing yards per game in 2024 – only better than two teams.
