The Chicago Bears have been among the most proactive teams in bringing in new players before the 2025 NFL season.
Under the guidance of new head coach Ben Johnson, previously the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, the Bears have taken significant steps to enhance their roster following a 5-12 finish last season
The primary focus for enhancements by the Bears is the offensive line. This offseason, the Bears have traded for guards Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney, and they signed center Drew Dalman as a free agent.
Moreover, the Bears are preparing to sign former Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo along with former Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. In general, the Bears have worked to enhance their play in the trenches on each side of the field.
On the St. Brown Podcast, Detroit Lions standout receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown appeared perplexed while talking about the Bears’ significant transactions.
“I feel as though the Bears have endless f***ing cash,” St. Brown expressed. “This is insane.” They’re merely securing new deals for around $40 to $50 million. Joe Thuney, wow. Jonah Jackson, wham. Drew Dalman, bam. Dayo Odeyingbo, an astonishing sum of money. Grady Jarrett, impact. They’re simply cutting everyone loose. They possess infinite funds. What on earth is this? Ben is simply making moves in every direction.
Enhancing the offensive line is crucial for Chicago, considering quarterback Caleb Williams faced 68 sacks during his inaugural NFL season. Johnson aims to optimize his young quarterback’s performance by enhancing the offensive line.
The Lions, on the other hand, have signed two players during the NFL’s official negotiation period. Cornerback D.J. Reed is poised to sign a three-year, $48 million contract, while defensive tackle Roy Lopez has finalized a one-year, $4.65 million agreement.
Craig Reynolds anticipated making a comeback.
The Free Press reports that running back Craig Reynolds is anticipated to come back to the Lions in 2025.
Dave Birkett noted that “The Lions chose not to offer an RFA contract to RB Craig Reynolds, but Reynolds is anticipated to agree to a one-year contract to remain in Detroit, akin to what Myles Adams accomplished.” Reynolds provides reliable coverage at the RB position, having participated in all 17 games on special teams last season as well.
