Final Bracketology Update for Kentucky as Selection Sunday Approaches

The Wildcats remain on track for a 3-seed, though there is a possibility they could be relegated to a 4-seed.

Kentucky ended the regular season strong, securing the 6-seed in the SEC Tournament. With the conference expected to have several double-digit bids and multiple top-10 teams, the Wildcats did well to secure some form of bye in the competition. They defeated Oklahoma in their opener but were eliminated by Alabama in the quarterfinals on Friday night.

With two wins over Tennessee and a victory over the top-ranked Duke Blue Devils, Kentucky has positioned itself well for Selection Sunday. Prior to the SEC Tournament, the Wildcats were firmly projected as a No. 3 seed.

Did their loss to Alabama affect that projection? Let’s take a look at where various media outlets currently rank the Wildcats.

Final Bracketology Roundup

On3’s James Fletcher III has Kentucky as a No. 3 seed in the West Region, where Florida holds the No. 1 spot.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, a respected figure in bracketology, places the Wildcats as a No. 3 seed in the South Region, with Auburn at No. 1 and Michigan State as the No. 2 seed in the region.

CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm also has Kentucky as a No. 3 seed in the West Region, where Florida is No. 1, followed by St. John’s and Arizona at No. 2 and 3, respectively.

FOX Sports lists Kentucky as a No. 3 seed, alongside Wisconsin, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech as the other teams in that grouping.

Bracket Matrix, which compiles bracketology projections from across the web, also has Kentucky as a No. 3 seed.

In the end, what do you think Kentucky’s seed will be? And what about the women’s team? They’re still widely predicted to be a No. 3 seed as well.
