Trade Proposal Between Rivals Could Move $9 Million Lions Veteran to Bills

The cornerback group of the Detroit Lions has become quite full this offseason.

They began the offseason with Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Amik Robertson, and Morice Norris ready to come back from the 2024 lineup.

In the past few weeks, they have re-signed Khalil Dorsey and brought in D.J. Reed, Avonte Maddox, and Rock Ya-Sin.

The increased depth at the position has Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report considering that one of the players coming back from last year’s team might be a potential trade option.

WHAT IS THIS SEASON LIKE IN AN NFL ORGANIZATION

In an article analyzing one trade every contender should consider to address their biggest flaw, Knox suggested that the Buffalo Bills should acquire Robertson.

Robertson is currently in a challenging position on the Lions’ roster.

The Reed signing guaranteed he would not start in 2025. The other moves don’t alter much for him besides providing additional choices for the rotation.

His main issue is that he is now the third choice at best, and Rakestraw may be arriving to claim that position.

Should the Lions conclude that Rakestraw is prepared to take on the CB3 position, it would result in Robertson facing a significantly reduced role for the final year of his existing contract.

In the meantime, the Bills might benefit from acquiring a cornerback. They ranked around the center of the league in yards permitted per passing attempt, allowing 7.1 last season. Then Rasul Douglas entered the free agent market after playing in 15 games for them last season.

The Lions appear highly reluctant to sacrifice depth at any position unless they absolutely need to following their injury struggles in 2024.

Nonetheless, there might be another free agent they find appealing or a draft candidate they favor that could render a trade more likely.

At this moment, I don’t envision the Lions moving Robertson, but there’s plenty of offseason remaining, and the Bills would logically be a trade partner if the Lions opt to trade Robertson.
