Ipswich Town may have suffered a 2–0 defeat to Liverpool, but the performance has given Gary O’Neil plenty to think about ahead of the club’s next Premier League challenge.
The Tractor Boys were punished brutally early at Portman Road, with Alexander Isak scoring twice inside the opening nine minutes. Both goals came after defensive mistakes, leaving Ipswich with a mountain to climb against one of the league’s strongest sides.
However, the story could have been very different after that difficult opening spell.
O’Neil was pleased with the response from his players, saying Ipswich were competitive for large periods and created opportunities of their own. The manager also highlighted the progress his team has made despite not getting anything from the match.
