Houston Texans Target Detroit Lions Guard Kevin Zeitler to Strengthen Offensive Line
In an unexpected development, the Houston Texans are focusing on Detroit Lions guard Kevin Zeitler as a possible key player to resolve their offensive line issues.
Texans’ Continuous Pursuit of Progress
Even after winning consecutive AFC South championships, the Houston Texans are fully conscious of the urgent requirements within their lineup. A significant weakness exists in their offensive line, which is ranked as one of the least effective in the NFL, demonstrated by quarterback C.J. Stroud being sacked an astonishing 52 times last season.
Vital Offseason Adjustment
Acknowledging the need to strengthen their offensive line, the Texans must undertake major actions in the forthcoming free agency phase, despite having restricted cap space. Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports has identified a practical option for Houston in Kevin Zeitler, a seasoned guard from the Detroit Lions.
Dajani emphasized, “The challenges faced by the Texans’ offensive line in 2024 led to coaching changes and a downturn in C.J. Stroud’s performance. Acquiring an experienced Pro Bowl guard such as Kevin Zeitler could significantly change the situation for Houston. Even as he nears 35, Zeitler consistently showcases outstanding performances on the field and offers significant leadership in the locker room.
Zeitler’s Remarkable History of Achievements
In the last season, Zeitler demonstrated his lasting skills by playing in all 16 games and receiving an impressive overall score of 86.8 from Pro Football Focus, showcasing his lasting abilities. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Zeitler was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals as the 27th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. During his career, he has also played for the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and Baltimore Ravens, achieving a Pro Bowl selection with the Ravens in 2023.
Possible Agreement Coming Soon
As Zeitler’s contract is nearing its end, the Texans may be poised to potentially acquire him on a one-year deal in the upcoming offseason, similar to the Lions’ approach last year. This action could greatly enhance Houston’s offensive line, offering essential stability and expertise to advance the team in the upcoming season.
