Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions saw their season end early in the NFL playoffs after an outstanding regular season.
Detroit qualified for the playoffs as the top seed in the NFC, finishing with a 15-2 record. Despite the initial playoff bye and all the excitement around Detroit, the Lions’ season ended with a home defeat to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round.
As Goff and the Lions begin the offseason, the quarterback turned to social media to announce some thrilling news about a recent investment he has made.
“I’m excited to be part of this motivating team of leaders as we strive to establish a WNBA franchise in Detroit!” Goff stated. “This is a fantastic chance for our lively community and the most dedicated supporters in the nation!”
Goff is becoming part of an investment team headed by Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores as they aim to propose a bid to reintroduce the WNBA to Detroit.
Additional investors for the significant project consist of NBA icons Grant Hill and Chris Webber, both of whom maintain strong connections to the city.
The city hosted the Detroit Shock from 1998 to 2009. The franchise secured WNBA championships in 2003, 2006, and 2008, but moved to Tulsa from 2010 to 2015 and is currently known as the Dallas Wings (2016-present).
With the WNBA’s rise in popularity, thanks in large part to stars such as Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, individuals like Goff are looking into potential expansion prospects.
