The Detroit Lions made significant investments in the cornerback position throughout the 2024 NFL offseason.

They inked Amik Robertson to a contract for two years.

They executed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Carlton Davis.

The Lions used their initial two selections in last year’s draft on cornerbacks, choosing Terrion Arnold from Alabama and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. from Missouri.

Regardless of all their efforts at the position last year, they find themselves once again in need of an upgrade at the position during the 2025 offseason.

Davis’ contract has now ended, and neither rookie demonstrated reliability during their initial season.

Regardless of their efforts at the position last year, they once more face the necessity to improve the position in the 2025 offseason.

Davis’ contract has now lapsed, and neither of the newcomers demonstrated reliability as a viable choice in their initial season.

With those question marks in place, one writer thinks the team ought to target a free agent who has gone somewhat unnoticed early in the offseason.

In an article highlighting one free agent that each NFL team ought to target this offseason, CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani identified New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo as the player the Lions should pursue.

Adebo hasn’t received the same level of recognition as Davis or Jets corner D.J. Reed, but perhaps he deserves it.

He participated in just seven games in 2024 due to a fractured femur, but he was having a highly productive season prior to the injury.

During his seven matches, Adebo recorded 52 total tackles, intercepted three passes, and defended 10 passes. In his final complete season, Adebo recorded 76 tackles, four interceptions, and defended 18 passes.

He has also restricted opposing QBs to a completion rate of 55% in 2023.

Adebo’s eagerness to tackle and his effectiveness in coverage could make him an excellent addition to the Lions’ secondary, and he may even be available at a reduced cost due to that injury halting his best career season.
