Eagles supporter, 18, dies after falling from a light pole during NFC Championship festivities.

A Philadelphia Eagles supporter who ascended and subsequently fell from a light pole following the team’s NFC Championship victory passed away on Tuesday.

 

The 18-year-old, named Tyler Sabapathy and a student at Temple University, incurred brain injuries from a fall at 15th and Market streets on Sunday night. He was subsequently put on life support before passing away at Jefferson Hospital, according to ABC 6 in Philly on Tuesday.

In a declaration by Temple President John Fry and Vice President for Student Affairs Jodi Bailey, the institution expressed sorrow over his passing.

 

“It is with profound sorrow that we communicate the news of the passing of first-year student Tyler Sabapathy,” the statement expressed. “During the weekend, Tyler suffered severe injuries and sadly died this afternoon.”

 

The tragic and traumatic loss of a talented 18-year-old like Tyler is profound. No words can express it, and the whole Temple community grieves his loss. We extend our condolences to Tyler’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew and cherished him.

 

Sabapathy, originally from Toronto, Canada, was part of the school’s gymnastics team and was pursuing a degree in exercise and sport science.

 

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker cautioned fans ahead of the festivities to refrain from climbing poles or firing guns in the streets.
