The Los Angeles Rams have previously made trades with the Detroit Lions, and with Cooper Kupp’s future with the Rams uncertain, a recent forecast has him moving to the Motor City.
The Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions executed a significant trade that influenced both teams as we recognize them now. The trade involved Matthew Stafford moving to the Rams in exchange for Jared Goff and three draft selections, two of which were first-round picks, resulting in a historically significant NFL agreement.
Nevertheless, the Rams find themselves in a comparable position to where they were in 2021. Experienced wide receiver Cooper Kupp has been associated with trade speculation since the conclusion of the season. Following a challenging season marked by injuries, the promising future for the Rams icon Kupp might be nearing its end.
As per TWSN’s Marissa Myers, Kupp is unlikely to be traded; instead, the Lions would benefit from what the Rams chose to discard.
“Kupp will reach 32 in June, and after another season plagued by injuries where he averaged just 59.2 receiving yards per game, his lowest since 2017, he ended up with 710 yards.” Myers wrote that due to Kupp’s contract, trading for him will be challenging for a team, but if he gets released, the Detroit Lions would be a logical choice to sign him.
As Myers pointed out, the problem lies with Kupp’s contract. Numerous analysts have examined it since the Rams were eliminated from the NFL Playoffs, but now a choice must be made. Wide receiver Puka Nacua has emerged as a key player for the Rams to develop in the future, but is Kupp hindering other young players due to his role on the team?
The Rams are contracted with young Jordan Whittington and are anticipated to either re-sign Tutu Atwell or Demarcus Robinson instead of allowing both to enter free agency. The Lions, following a humiliating elimination this season, could benefit from Kupp’s addition to help them cross the finish line, as per Myers.
With Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams at receiver, adding another option like Kupp would provide Goff with a third reliable target during critical situations. According to Myers, Kupp sees the Lions as the next team where he can finish his career successfully while having the greatest chance to win another Super Bowl in Detroit.
