Stefan Borson: Man City may agree to £35m James McAtee bid

Man City could accept ‘£35m’ James McAtee offer – Stefan Borson

Manchester City is seeking a fee in the range of £30-35 million to consider parting ways with midfielder James McAtee.

This is according to Stefan Borson, a former Man City financial adviser, who told Football Insider that the value of young players continues to rise amid growing interest in the 22-year-old.

McAtee has started four of his 14 appearances for Man City this season, scoring five goals.

The Bundesliga club has presented the Premier League champions with a loan-to-buy proposal for McAtee.

“I think the key point is that the value of young players is increasing in the market,” Borson explained to Football Insider.

“Youth is becoming a bigger factor in pricing than ever before. McAtee, who started Premier League matches during his loan at Sheffield United, hasn’t had as many starts at City, and the starting value is between £30-35 million.”

“Clubs seem more willing to pay that price. What’s crucial is that, as the overall price decreases, more European teams can afford it. More Champions League clubs are entering the race.”

“If a player is valued at €70 million (£59 million), only clubs like PSG, Bayern Munich, and Premier League teams can compete financially.”

“But with a €40 million (£33 million) price tag, clubs like Dortmund can be contenders.”

“There may also be some Italian teams, but even Juventus, with their current financial struggles, have a better shot at competing in this market.”

“I believe that’s what’s driving his price,” he added.
