What Porto revealed to Man City about their pursuit of Nico Gonzalez today.

Porto’s stance on Nico Gonzalez and his potential move to Manchester City has been clarified, with positive news for City. The midfielder, currently at Porto, is eager to join City on deadline day and could immediately fill the void left by the injured Rodri in their midfield.

Pep Guardiola is determined to add a new midfielder to his squad as the team still lacks a defensive presence in the middle of the park.

Nico Gonzalez featured for Porto during their Liga Portugal Betclic match against Gil Vicente FC at Estadio Ciudad de Barcelos in Barcelos, as seen in the image above.

Porto demands £50 million for Nico Gonzalez Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City made “direct contact” with Porto “this morning” to negotiate for Gonzalez, but Porto’s response was clear: City would need to pay €60 million (£50 million) to secure the player’s signature.

Romano also shared that there have been no complications regarding the personal terms with Gonzalez.

Unless City agree to Porto’s asking price, it seems unlikely the Portuguese club will change their position, especially as Gonzalez remains an important player for them.

Man City have also considered Douglas Luiz, reportedly in talks with Juventus over a loan deal, but it seems the pursuit has cooled as Manchester United have emerged as suitors for the midfielder.

Manchester City must act fast to sign Nico Gonzalez With Jacob Wright expected to join Swansea City on loan, Gonzalez appears to be Manchester City’s only option for a natural defensive midfielder unless they decide against signing him.

Martin Zubimendi, another player linked with City, is now set to join Arsenal, and Bruno Guimaraes, once a target for City, is unlikely to leave Newcastle United until at least the summer.

Given these setbacks, City has no choice but to finalize a deal for Gonzalez, who has been performing exceptionally well at Porto this season. The versatile midfielder can anchor the midfield and also play in an attacking role, making him an ideal partner for Rodri once he returnsto full fitness.
