Report: BYU Football to Face Colorado Early in Big 12 Schedule
PROVO, Utah — A major matchup on BYU’s 2025 football schedule has reportedly surfaced.
According to Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger, BYU is set to play at Colorado on Saturday, September 27.

This game will serve as a rematch of the 2024 Alamo Bowl, where BYU dominated Colorado with a 36-14 victory in San Antonio, closing out an 11-2 season.
The full Big 12 schedule for BYU’s 2025 season will be officially released on Tuesday, February 4, at 9 a.m. (MST) on ESPNU.
If the reported date holds, the matchup against Colorado will be BYU’s second straight road game. The week before, BYU will travel to Greenville, North Carolina, for a nonconference showdown with East Carolina.
This encounter marks BYU’s first trip to Boulder since 1981 and the first regular-season meeting between the two teams in 44 years.
In that 1981 game, BYU secured a 41-20 win. Two legendary BYU quarterbacks played in that matchup—Jim McMahon started the game, while Steve Young stepped in when McMahon suffered an injury.

The last two meetings between BYU and Colorado have occurred in bowl games.
During the Alamo Bowl in December, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake and Colorado’s Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders shared mutual respect for each other.
“I have a great relationship with Coach Prime. I really admire what he’s done with his team,” Sitake said in December.
After the Alamo Bowl, Sanders expressed his admiration as well.
“They played an incredible game. If I have to take a loss, I’d rather it be against a coach like him,” Sanders said about Sitake and BYU. “I love him, man. He’s a great guy.”
