Jared Goff had an outstanding 2024 season with the Detroit Lions, completing 72.4% of his passes for 4,629 yards, 37 touchdowns, and only 12 interceptions. Under his direction, the Lions’ offense was the most prolific in the NFL, ranking second in total yards per game.
Although his impressive statistics and the Lions’ remarkable season under his leadership were worthy of recognition, Goff did not win the AP NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen claimed the MVP honor with 383 points. Allen’s exceptional performance helped lead the Bills to their fifth consecutive AFC East title, earning him 27 first-place votes. Lamar Jackson, who led the Baltimore Ravens to the AFC North title, finished second with 362 points, including 23 first-place votes.
Although Goff finished fifth in MVP voting, earning 47 points, his 2024 performance marked a milestone for both him and the Lions. With Goff at the helm, the Lions’ offense became one of the most explosive in the league, helping him achieve a notable finish in the MVP voting.
Other strong MVP candidates included Saquon Barkley (third with 120 points), Joe Burrow (fourth with 82), and Patrick Mahomes (sixth with 31).
While Goff didn’t win the MVP, his leadership and performance further cemented his position among the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, setting the stage for an exciting future with the Lions.
