The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles include several players who were formerly part of the Detroit Lions.
Four former Lions players are presently on the rosters of the teams competing in Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The only players on the active roster for the Eagles are defensive backs Darius Slay and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Defensive lineman Charles Harris (Eagles) and tight end Anthony Firkser (Chiefs) are both on the practice squad at this time.
Slay, 34, has received praise from numerous defense and coaching staff members for helping to develop the young defensive backs on the Eagles roster, such as rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
“I believe whenever you have a veteran who is open about his challenges as a younger player, whether related to on-field or off-field issues, and he conveys those experiences to younger players, that’s incredibly valuable.” “He truly takes on that role because he had excellent leaders during his early days as a player in Detroit,” Eagles secondary coach Christian Parker stated this week. “Thus, he fully recognizes how significant that was for him.”
“Thus, he aims to create a similar influence for those individuals.” “He’s an outstanding teammate,” Parker added. “I appreciate the chance to coach him and that our young players can also have the opportunity to be near him.”
Mitchell observed that it is not always true throughout the league that veterans welcome rookies.
“He’s been very significant to me,” Mitchell conveyed during his media session. “I believe I wouldn’t have achieved the success I’ve achieved without him.” He has served as a big brother and a teammate. I can approach him regarding anything. Regarding football, he has assisted me greatly. However, in reality, beyond football, he has also assisted me greatly. Chatting with guys from different teams really surprised me, as that isn’t frequently the situation. “However, we have excellent veterans present.”
