In 2024, the Detroit Lions had their finest regular-season record ever, finishing 15–2 and claiming the top seed in the NFC playoff standings. They were, nevertheless, unable to take advantage in the playoffs since an extremely harsh wave of injuries devastated the team’s defense and provided almost no room for mistakes. The Lions faced elimination at home in the divisional round by the Washington Commanders and are now looking forward to 2025, where Detroit wishes for a more fortunate season ahead.
Star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who delivered yet another first-team All-Pro season in 2024, is extremely excited to demonstrate what a fully healthy Lions roster is capable of. He’s incredibly enthusiastic and wants to face the defending champions as quickly as he can.
During an episode of his St. Brown Podcast with brothers Osiris and Equanimeous, Amon-Ra expressed his wish for the Lions to be chosen as the team to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in the opening game of the 2025 NFL season.
“Eagles will host the home opener next year due to their Super Bowl victory,” St. Brown stated. “May I share with you the list of teams that might participate in that opening match?” Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Lions, Raiders, Rams, Broncos. Among all those teams, if you’re the NFL, which one would you select to include?
When his brothers both said they would pick the Lions, St. Brown strongly concurred. “That’s my point.” “Therefore, we could be performing on opening night.”
“You’ll understand how our solid defense functions and what it’s all about,” St. Brown later remarked.
At the start of the playoffs, a Lions-Eagles NFC championship matchup seemed quite possible since they were the leading two teams in the conference, and home field advantage is never more significant than during the postseason. Clearly, that didn’t happen, but St. Brown is definitely eager for an opportunity to demonstrate what his team can do following an impressive run by Philadelphia.
It will take a few months for the world to learn if the matchup on opening night will truly be the Lions against the Eagles.
