Following consecutive Super Bowl victories with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 and 2023, wide receiver Kadarius Toney competed in the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns.

As reported by TMZ Sports, Toney was detained on a count of aggravated assault and a charge for obstructing/harassing 911 calls. The police reports claim that Toney choked a woman to the extent that she struggled to breathe.

According to the report, the arrest is related to a domestic conflict in Georgia on Jan. 14, during which he reportedly placed his hand around a woman’s neck and squeezed “with sufficient force to prevent her from breathing.”

The report also indicates that the supposed assault resulted in the woman having “red marks on her neck and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes.” Toney reportedly seized the woman’s phone to stop her from dialing 911.

Following his arrest, Toney’s bail was established at $25,000 for each count. TMZ could not get in touch with Toney or his agents for a statement.

Prior to this incident, Toney was already facing difficulties in maintaining his NFL career. He made only two touches for the Browns in 2024 and was let go during the season after playing in just three games with a total of 23 snaps.

Toney was selected as the 20th overall pick by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft and displayed significant potential as a rookie, achieving 39 receptions for 420 yards over 10 games.

Nonetheless, a mix of discipline problems and injury concerns prompted the Giants to trade Toney just a year later, and he subsequently played a supplementary role with the Kansas City Chiefs during their consecutive Super Bowl victories.
