Like his former boss, Matt Patricia is set to coach at the college level in 2025.

The ex-Lions head coach and Patriots defensive coordinator is finalizing an agreement to become Ohio State’s defensive coordinator, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Patricia, 50, spent the 2024 season collaborating with former Patriots head coach and current North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick on his podcast. Patricia’s most recent stint was with the Eagles in 2023, where he worked as the senior defensive assistant and effectively served as the defensive coordinator toward the end of the season.

Patricia posted a 13-29 record as Detroit’s head coach from 2018-2020, before being fired on Nov. 28 following the team’s Thanksgiving loss to the Texans.

He returned to the Patriots in 2021 as a senior football advisor and then became the team’s offensive line coach and offensive play-caller in 2022, with poor results. Patricia had previously been with New England from 2004-2017, where he was the defensive coordinator from 2012 until Detroit hired him.
