The Indianapolis Colts continued to build their roster after the new league year began, bringing in Khalil Herbert on a one-year contract.
The ex-Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals running back adds experience to the backfield with 59 games played, starting in 13 of those encounters.
Throughout his four-year career, he has accumulated 1,905 rushing yards and scored nine touchdowns. Herbert has 312 yards from receiving and two touchdowns from receptions.
This is the depth chart for running backs following the signing:
Colts roster overview
Jonathan Taylor
Khalil Herbert
Tyler Goodson
This establishes a contest for the RB2 position on the depth chart involving Herbert and Goodson, but it’s reasonable to expect that additional players will join the running back unit before training camp, given that only three backs are currently on the roster.
One or two veterans will probably be signed for camp, but expect Chris Ballard to secure one through the draft, particularly given the abundance of talent in this class for that position.
He must consider the future because Herbert and Goodson are on one-year deals. Additionally, Taylor has only two more years remaining on his contract.
