The scouting department of the Detroit Lions is facing challenges just days prior to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Lions Director of Scouting Advancement Mike Martin is departing from Detroit to join the college sector.

Martin is going to Notre Dame, where he will take on the role of general manager for the football program. He has been with the Lions throughout GM Brad Holmes’ entire four-year period. In his position with the Lions, Martin assisted in coordinating the college and professional scouting processes and reports, collaborating with Holmes and the scouts to aid in developing the team-building strategy. Martin dedicated more than 20 years to different scouting positions with multiple NFL teams.

Now, Martin moves to the Fighting Irish program that was defeated in the CFP Championship Game. He will manage the team alongside head coach Marcus Freeman.
