STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Matt Campbell era at Penn State could hardly have started better.
The Nittany Lions opened the 2026 season with a dominant 45–0 victory over Marshall, putting together an impressive performance on offense, defense and special teams.
Now, however, the attention is shifting to the next challenge.

Penn State travels to face Temple in its first road game of the season, and Campbell has an interesting set of decisions to make after such a convincing opener.
Quarterback Rocco Becht was outstanding against Marshall, throwing for 271 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Wide receiver Koby Howard also exploded onto the scene with six catches for 161 yards and a touchdown.
With several players making strong cases for bigger roles, Campbell now has the opportunity to evaluate what worked — and what could become even better.
